My building has been broken into 2 times in the last couple of months. Cleary, it's not secure. The first time was during evening rush hour and 4 or 5 units were broken into. This weekend, a tenant's back door was kicked in in the middle of the afternoon!!!! I don't feel safe and I don't think my landlord cares enough to try and better secure the building. I think he took 2 days to fix the tenants back door! WTF! I bought a door brace but I'm not convinced that does anything. I am moving out over this, but obviously I can't do that overnight. In the meantime, I probably won't be sleeping well.
whoa, your landlord really needs to do something about this. Could you try organizing a meeting with all the other tenants to talk about ways to approach this? Somebody needs to put this in writing and have all the tenants sign it. This is pretty serious stuff.
ugh, I know how you feel. My apartment is the only one on my floor that hasn't been broken into in the last 2 years!
I have no advice, just maybe you could put a chain deadbolt on the door to help stop intruders, and I also have a big heavy safe that I keep my most expensive stuff in when I'm gone.

You can also go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a few of those stickers (I have a security system) to put on your doors and windows. You can also get alarms for doors and windows there. I debated this when a nearby unit got broken into but I decided to spend my money on renter's insurance instead. Make sure you have that!
