if it's any consolation, j crew has had cashmere hoodies for the past 5+ seasons. i don't foresee them stopping anytime soon.

You can always check eBay. Jcrew cashmere turns up there fairly often.

Does anyone have experience with the quality of jcrew cashmere? I know it's Italian, and the better cashmere is from scotland. but I don't know how big a difference that makes or whatever...

I don't own any of their straight cashmere, because I keep hearing from the other girls here about how it tends to pill badly. I do, however, own a blend (wool / cashmere) sweater from jcrew, and it does pilll. Not terribly, but more than I'd like.

Dizzy, thanks, but unfortunately it's not the hoodie that's on sale. :( I had forgotten about that - Scottish cashmere is supposed to be the best, right? Like you, I don't know if that makes a difference.
