daiz519', '', this, 1);">daiz519, you mentioned in another thread you were starting with a prescription retinoid.  I was just prescribed one.  How's it going?  Can anybody else share their experiences?  I've used them in the past but was non consistent enough so never really saw improvement in my acne.

I've been using retin-a for over 5 years now, and I love it.  I never had really bad acne, but I would get painful cysts sometimes and pick at them; haven't had those in forever.

hi there--funny cuz I recently went to the doctor for a follow-up on the prescription.  I'm trying to be realllly patient because I've read it takes awhile for it to clear everything up since it tends to make it worse before it gets better.  So I did notice that more of the smaller pimples were popping up than before.  I started off really slow....twice a week for two weeks, then went up to once every two days for two weeks, then went up to every other night, and now i'm up to every night.  I also applied it on top of my moisturizer--which i read was a good idea if I've been sensitive to it in the past (which I have).  I notice a smoother feeling to my skin but i'm still getting rid of the stuff that was way under there.  So like I said...just being patient.

the doctor recommended that i also apply a mixture of benzoyl peroxide with another prescritpion antibiotic which i can't remember the name of.  I have been more hesitant to do that because I have heard that benzoyl peroxide is harsher to the skin in terms of aging.  but i think i might try it just to see...i'm just worried about sensitivity and putting too many harsh things on my skin.

how is it going with you?  any advice?

Thanks guys.  I'm only on day 2, so I think I'll have to let you know what's going on in a few months.  All the research I've done looks promising.  I'm using Retin-A micro at night and a topical prescription antibiotic in the morning.  I am going to use this stuff exactly as directed and will stick with it, because I think the results will be worth it.  I haven't been under the care of a dermatologist for awhile, but I think I should have been, because I have moderately severe acne and a lot of hyper pigmentation.  I was trying to keep it under control with benzoyl peroxide (Proactiv), but I think a retinoid was really necessary.

I've used Retin-A for years. I love it! As I've gotten older, I've used it less because the BCP really helped with my acne. I just use it when I start to break out and between my eyebrows because I'm getting a wrinkle there. I love Retin-A! I think when I first started on it (I was 10, so my memory is a little fuzzy), it burned a little and really made my face peel, but I had really severe acne and I put a ton of the stuff on.

Just be careful when you go out in the sun, I found that I need to wear SPF pretty much all the time if I go outside, or I fry pretty quick.
