I want to create a shabby chic feel in the kitchen. I'm using my antique desk instead of a kitchen cart. I'm planning to add a sage gingham fabric curtain on the opening to hide storage and appear less like a desk.
So are these tier curtains too country or cat ladyish? I have to have tiers because the house is close to the street and elevated and easy for strangers to watch us eat, but at the same time I would like to have a little light coming in.
Personally? I think it's a bit on the kitschy side of shabby chic. I think it's the primary-ness of the colors that does it. I your idea for the desk though!
I have tiered cafe curtains like that in my kitchen window, too. I inherited them from the previous owners of the house - they're green with apples all over, and will be replaced post haste! IMO something with softer colors and a quieter 'pattern' would work nicely for your shabby chic theme, and with your desk plans.
I'll see what I can find .... (w/ matching valance, not shown) <- these are linen

I think they could work but it would be borderline country. You're safer with just the green gingham, which are super cute! Love that desk! Post pics when you're finished. How long are you going to be there? Aren't you moving to AZ soon?
I'm not loving the tops ones, but I think the bottom ones could be shabby chic. I also think some sort of stripe would be cute or florals (soft sparse print ones) are always considered shabby chic. Here are some examples of what I think might look good.
Love something like this for shabby chic: a floral like this:
Hope that helps some. I'm sure others will have some good ideas too.

Since MIL's DH had a family emergency, our AZ plans were pushed out...we're there for 6 mths tops, then we're off to AZ.

Thanks XtinaStyles', '', this, 0);">XtinaStyles, I love balloon shades, I actually got one for the bathroom, but I had to go with tiers/valance set for the kitchen due to privacy from the outside. I'll post what I bought in the shopping thread.
