Anyone have any suggestions for hotels/bars/restaurants/shopping/etc in Montreal? We're doing a short trip this weekend -- just to spend Saturday day and night and head back mid-day on Sunday -- so I need to coordinate a place to stay, places for dinner and breakfast (good but nothing super fancy), and places to bar hop Saturday night (nothing too club-y, live music is good).

I know this isn't what you're interested in, per se, but there's an insectarium in Montreal where you can eat chocolate-covered insects if you so choose. I thought it was pretty cool.

there's a lot of good shopping near the mont-royal metro stop.

rue st. laurent and st. denis have decent stores, iirc. (like lush, mac pro store, etc) the street directly out of the metro stop has some good vintage shops. it's been awhile, so i can't really comment much on the food..

also, last time we went there, we stayed in the latin quarter, near uqam. we stayed in a row-house "hotel" (i don't know how else to describe it) and i prefered it to a regular hotel, honestly.
