I stay home so I'm wondering how you go about deciding when and where you wear your cute dresses? I'm afraid of buying 1 and only wearing it once and hardly ever put it on again after that. So I would have to buy more but Im thinking that can get expensive! Usually I wear tank tops of fitted tee's if Im just running errands or staying inside....
I stay home too, but in the summer I wear cotton jersey dresses, like rachel pally, all the time. They are a great quick way to look cute and still be comfy. Throw on some flip flops, or cuter shoes if your going somewhere, and your done. Easy over a swimsuit to take the girls to the pool, cute under a jean jacket to hit the mall, add some wedges and cute earrings for dinner out.
Break out of your mold and just do it. Buy a versatile one, like Rachel Pally and dress it up for dinner, or down to run errand around town - think flats and a jean jacket. You can be the hip girl in the cute sundress rather than the same ol' girl in jeans and a tee!
I wear dresses all the time. i think my body looks better in skirts/dresses than in pants. I also find them to be more comfortable, but maybe that's just me.
I wear them a decent amount in the summer, too, just like the other girls suggested. It's a great go-to errands piece (denim jacket, dress, flip flops), especially if your errands include shopping . Super easy to whip on and off if you're doing alot of trying-on!
I'd maybe buy just one dress to start out with - something in a cute but wearable color, that can be dressed up or down, like a nice stretchy cotton or jersey. Then if you find yourself reaching for it alot, you can buy a couple more (probably on end of season sale!) without the guilt.
Some cute, inexpensive ones:
$36$40 $35$50
$30$48 $18$20

I wear dresses all the time. The only time I wouldn't is probably to work, class, or if I'm doing something physical. They're just so easy and you can look polished with minimal effort. Obviously different dresses are for different occasions, but a casual cotton or jersey one, I'll wear on an occasion when everyone else is wearing jeans. Or I'll wear them going to church, out to eat, etc... I mean, basically whatever else I do, I wear dresses for. The ones I wear the most are casual ones and my black wrap dress.
Elle, where is this dress from? Cute!

It's from American Eagle . I have last years version of it, with spaghetti straps instead of cap sleeves. I got it for maybe $15 at the end of the summer. It's a nice, light cotton so it's very comfy - a bit stretchy but not at all see-through!

i wear a lot of dresses. I'm actually wearing one today!
i think the dresses that Elle suggested are perfect for what you're looking for. Mine are a lot more dressier for work purposes. The reason I love them is b/c you put them on and you're done. its not like you gotta find pants and a top or a skirt AND a top... super easy and super cute!

I am totally the same, I find that its easier to find a skirt or dress that has a nice fit than pants. I am usually in dresses or skirts unless its really cold out (like its been here in ny for a while).
I work from home, but I wear dresses a fair amount. Especially in the summer. They're so easy to accessorize - a statement necklace, or earrings and a bracelet, plus shoes. Simple! Plus they're a lot physically cooler to wear in the warmer months than jeans. I own about 8 dresses. Most are stand-alone ones, but a couple of them (one 3/4 sleeve and one sleeveless) can also be worn over jeans.
I'm with sydney. Get into the habit of throwing one on, even once a week, and you'll be addicted in no time. :)

I'm pretty much w/Kitty, I love dresses and skirts, more so than pants. I only wear pants when I haven't shaved my legs in a while, but other than that, LOVE MY DRESSES!!! I'm sure you're learn to love them as well.

I was reading this thread : http://www.thefashionspot.com/forums/f46/when-you-shop-what-do-you-typically-buy-3191.html and feeling less out of it (guilty?) that I rarely, if ever wear dresses.
One of the questions the designer asked was what is the ratio of tops, bottoms to dresses and surprisingly the dress ratio was ALOT lower than I expected for 99% of the female posters. I wonder why? I mean a dress is SO easy compared to multi component dressing so why don't more of us wear them?
Ooops, don't why that doesn't link directly ...try this: http://tinyurl.com/yp258v
