Hey, going to Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia for Spring Break....(College touring...) and was wondering what some cool streets/stores/boutique to shop on/in. For clothes, really, and if they are reasonably priced, that'd be great. If not, its alright, just name whatever comes to mind.
what type of stores do you like? georgetown is pretty nice- some chains and a few boutiques tysons galleria in virginia is pretty much my favorite place on earth, but is more upscale. pentagon city mall has a ton. there's a loehman's in friendship heights and a filene's basement on L ST (I think) that can have some really great deals.
I lived in Northern Virginia for 14 years. NoVA is for the most part mall world, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's Tysons Corner Mall, which is your regular mall, and nearby is Tysons Galleria, which has Burberry, Max Mara, Neiman Marcus, Saks, etc.. It's a bit more upscale. Tysons Corner has just all of the major chain stores, including the H&M I used to haunt frequently.
In D.C. itself, Georgetown has always had a lot of great, hip stores and lots of restaurants. All of the good stuff is on Wisconsin Ave. or M St.. U St. is a little bit more adventurous, but it's got some quirky shops out there. Adams Morgan is known for its ethnic restaurants and shops. Those are the basics. I'm sure someone who lives there can post more up-to-date info than I can.

U Street -Wild Women Wear Red (shoes) -Nana (vintage/boutique) -Pink November ($$$, gorgeous dresses) **you have to eat at Tabaq if you come to this area, good food, make sure you sit at the top floor for rooftop views** **Dukem (ethiopian restaurant) is also really good**
Dupont Circle -Secondi (consignment) -Ginza (japanese ceramics/lanterns, cute stationary and wrapping paper) -Proper Topper (gifts)
Capitol Hill -Eastern Market (flea market/lots of cool shops and bakeries/great people watching)
I would like to add, MustardSeed on Wisconsin ave in Bethesda downtown is really great. I used to frequent there when i lived in Maryland. It is used/new clothing, shoes, and accessories store. it sells great items. Awesome prices. I have to admit, it is a bit out of way but always the worth of the stop for me.
Also Intermix in Georgetown; All About Jane, Shoe Fly, South Moon Under in Arlington; Hysteria in Old Town, Alexandria
the Filenes Basement on Connecticut in downtown dc is great, too. If I had to pick one area to focus on it would be Georgetown b/c there are good semi-high end chains (anthro, bcbg, club monaco, etc.) as well as great little boutiquey stores (intermix and urban chic are my favorite, but there are tons).
