Where would I find cute lampshades?
Permalink Closed

I need shades for the lamps we bought for our new nightstands, but all I'm finding are super boring beige/white type things!  How boring, and not what our bedroom needs at all.

I want something with an open pattern (so the light can still come through) that will pull the soft teal color (ver similar to the color of the blanket in the pic below) off the walls a bit.  Everything else in the room is neutral, save those walls, so I need to tie it all together.  The pattern on this PB bedding is what started it all:

Do they make relatively inexpensive patterned lamp shades?  Does Marshalls or TJMaxx usually have such things, or am I going to have to make them myself?

Here's a couple I found....

UO:
maybe  a little dark.
maybe owls are a little cutesy for the bedroom?

Ikea:

That was about five minutes of looking...I'm sure that Marshall's and the like have a ton. You might need to go back on consecutive weeks to find ones that are perfect but I bet they are there!

I've seen those Ikea ones and really, really like a couple - unfortunately my closest one is 3 hours away, and they don't ship lampshades .  Bastards!  Mr. Elle has previously vetoed use of the UO ones, but I was hoping for something a little more sophisticated/organic anyway.

I'll have to hit up Marshalls and TJs tomorrow and see if I can dig anything up

Do you have a Home Goods near you?  They might have something.  Have you tried Bed, Bath and Beyond, Linens N Things, or Target yet?  Pier 1 and World Market/Cost Plus might be a few other places to look.

Also, I wonder if you could get a plain lampshade and a set of the PB pillowcases and use diluted fabric glue to glue that fabric onto the lampshade.  That way you could have your own custom shades and you could dress it up even more by using some pretty trim around the top and bottom.

Target has cute ones.
Also, I live right by the Schaumburg Ikea and I am going this week to get Camille a table and chairs for her first birthday. I will get you the shades and ship them to you if you want. Just send me a message and let me know if you want them, the exact one and the size. I go to the post office a couple of times a week for ebay stuff I am selling so I could get them out to you pretty quick.  My sister and stepmom will be here this week to help with the party and visit so it would make it easy for me to do.

Just let me know.

NC - we don't have a Home Goods, and I've looked at all the rest of the places.  Unfortunately Pier One and Cost Plus seem to only sell their lampshades as part of set, already attached to a base.  I'll try a different Target tomorrow too, just in case they have more selection.  Do you think I'd be able to get one shade out of each PB pillowcase?

Mika - that's beyond generous of you!  I'll let you know!

I'm looking for chandelier shades for my kitchen, and I've come to the conclusion that lampshade shopping is something that needs to happen in person.

I don't know if a Lamps Plus is geographically desirable, but they constantly advertise shades. You might try calling some neighborhood lighting stores to see if they have a decent selection in the size/style you want or have catalogs you can browse.

Also check on the return policy, since it's hard to gauge scale in the store, even if you bring the lamp with you (which is a good idea).

Man, complete and total strikeout lampshade shopping yesterday!  Neither Marshalls or TJMaxx had anything other than white shades (!).

Now that I recall though, I think the Ross near me has an entire aisle devoted to lampshades!  Will have to check it out soon!

If I can't find one there, I think I'll just attempt the DIY route.  Scares me a bit, but I guess even if it turns out like absolute crap it's only a few bucks wasted !  I'll post pics if I do it myself.
