Any Publishers/Writers?
Permalink Closed

I have started writing a tween novel that I want to publish when its finished.  Has anyone had any experience with literary agents or know anyone who has? Thanks!

I don't, but you might want to go the route of self-publishing.

My friend's father wrote a novel, and instead of getting it published traditionall he used http://xlibris.com

It was available for purchase on Amazon and everything too.

Ttara, did anyone buy his book? If so, how did he get the word out about it? Was he able to make back the money he spent to publish it? (Curious because my sister has one she's been thinking about publishing, but she's not sure how to go about it, either).

I'm not sure about if he made the money back or not. Of course a lot of his friends and family bought it, and they spread the word. I think that in this case, he just had to be his own marketing guy, but I honestly don't know a whole lot about the details. Sorry!

I have a friend who wrote a popular nonfiction book in the late 1980s. He self-published, but it was so well received by the public (Oprah, etc.) he ended up selling the paperback rights to Random House. It sold so well he has lived off of this book ever since.

A few years ago he went back to Random House to say he was ready to write a follow-up, but they told him he would have to pay for the first hardcover print run himself (tens of thousands). I don't know if this is typical, but he wasn't even a first-timer, and the point is, even the big guys sometimes expect the writer to pay for publishing.
