How long do you cook frozen chicken breasts vs. thawed?

I ask because I found the following recipe idea. I think it sounds delicious (albeit fattening) and want to make it for an easy dinner tomorrow night with my BF comes to town. The recipe calls for boneless chicken breasts, and since there's no indication I would usually assume that means thawed chicken breasts.

But then it says to bake for 45 minutes, which is how long I usually bake a chicken breast right out of the freezer. I'm so confused. And I know this is a dumb question, but I am new to this whole cooking idea...I only finally decided in the last couple months that takeout every single night isn't the best idea.

TIA!

INGREDIENTS
  • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 1 (18 ounce) bottle honey barbecue sauce
  • 1 pound sliced bacon
DIRECTIONS
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Wash chicken and pat dry, then place in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Smother chicken with 1/2 of the barbecue sauce, then layer bacon slices cross-ways on top. Pour remaining 1/2 of barbecue sauce over all.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and juices run clear. Serve one chicken breast per person with just the crispy, top pieces of bacon.

  • This always confuses me too.  It sounds like the recipe calls for frozen breasts because 45 minutes sounds like too long for thawed breasts.  I like to thaw my meat beforehand though, so I would just start checking after 20 minutes or so (this is when a meat thermometer comes in handy!).

The recipe sounds yummy--I made something similar just last week!
