Can I pull of the just above the ankle length pants?  I feel like they are better on taller people but thought I'd see what you guys thought.  If you think yes, it would work....what style of shoes?

Whether it will work or not has a lot to do with proportion and not just height (although height is a challenge).  If you have fairly long legs for your height, it could work but if you have a longer torso, then it will emphasize this.

I have a friend who is about 5'4" but she has a very long body and short legs.  I've seen her successfully wear cropped pants but only when they are the same color as her heeled boots.

My legs are longer, shorter torso.

I'm 5'3" and my legs are on the average to short side and I look funny in ankle length pants, they make my legs look shorter.  But if you have longer legs, I don't think your height would matter that much.

i agree, i'm 5'3 and those types of trousers look weird on me but i think it's more about my proportions than my height

No!  Average to short people don't look so great being cut off at the ankle.  I would stick with a full pant or if you want something a little lighter maybe bermuda shorts?

Hmm, how much above the ankle? I think if you have long legs it would work.

IMO it's more about proportion. If you're built slim and have longer legs, I think it could be a cute look with ballet flats (Audrey Hepburn)

Totally agree.  As long as the pants are on the slim side and fit properly.
