Knitting needles on planes?
Permalink Closed

Has anyone brought knitting needles on a plane recently?  I'm leaving for a trip tonight and I'd rather not check my suitcase, plus it would be nice to have one more activity to do in-flight.
The TSA site says that knitting needles are permitted in carry-on bags but security officers have the final say in whether or not things are allowed on the plane and may not allow it.

You shouldn't have a problem.  I've flown several times in the last couple of months w/ knitting needles.  I'd bring wooden needles to be on the safe side as I have heard of other knitters getting security grief for the really pointy metal needles.

I've brought mine on countless flights & have never had an issue.  And I have brought all kinds too - circs, metal, I never use wood.  I usually tell them they are in there before my bags go through but I've never heard of anyone having a problem getting them through.  I also got them through International gates before too & they are supposed to be banned on int'l flights.

So what are you making?
