What did you guys think of the 2/7/07 episode?

I'm so confused now.  Is the Dharma Initiative real, or are The Others really just people experimenting with fertility?

Next week the gang is getting reunited, so that's good.  They've hardly spent any time this season on the characters still on the beach.

I thought all of the flashbacks of Juliet before she was on the island were totally over-the-top: like those recruiters coming to the morgue to recruit her and she's just going along with it? please.

I think Karl is going to snap when they get back to the island, they were trying to brainwash him after all.  I don't think the Juliet getting recruited at the morgue thing was too over the top, they could arrange for her ex to get hit by a bus, I thought there was an implied threat that they could kill her with as little effort.  But I don't necessarily believe everything Juliet said to Jack, I don't know if she's a prisoner on the island.  I think she went semi-against her will and "converted" once she arrived.

I want to see Locke and Hurley again!

I'm just happy that they did reveal some info instead of only adding new mysteries, and they also progressed the story line a bit, finally!  I thought the part about Juliets ex getting hit by the bus was thrown in our face though - I mean, you knew they were setting it up as soon as the words came out of her mouth!

IMO the writers/producers got a bit full of themselves last season, and took their fans obsession for granted with ALL the new questions and NO answers.  Hopefully they've realized they need to focus on developing the story to keep the show alive, instead of milking it to selfishly extend the hype they've created.

No more lollygagging!  They need to start tying up all the loose ends they so haphazardly created, since next season will probably be their last!

I know, they are excellent at creating the intrigue, but then they don't really know what to do from there. Plus, I was shocked to find out that they don't have any sort of master plan outlined - they create intrigue, and then decide they'll figure out some explanation later.

Like, what was with those ghost/spirit things in the forest? That's the one thing that's really bothered me because it seemed paranormal - whereas everything else has been based more in reality.

ITA!  And I also agree that I wouldn't trust Karl that they were brainwashing, he could go all zoolander on them.

Ahh, I love LOST!

The brainwashing thing totally freaked me out.  I wonder what they are trying to convince them of?

I don't trust Juliet at all. Something about her is fishy.

This worries me too, Kitty.  I'm afraid they are creating all this mystery, then they'll wrap it up in some completely lame way in like the last two episodes.

I enjoyed the episode overall.  I don't know what to think of Juliet.  It surpirsed me that she had been on the island for such a short time.  However, I just don't believe a single word she says to Jack.

Also, I'm so intrigued by Alex.  We now know that Ben is her father (or at least that's what she's been led to believe), so I want to know what the connection is with Rousseau.

I think they established that Alex is Rousseau's daughter - I was assuming that after she was taken by the others, she was raised by Ben but is not aware that she's not his biologically.  In a previous espisode we found out that Rousseau was 7 months pregnant when she wrecked on the island, so Ben isn't really her 'father'.

That's my thinking too, I just don't necessarily trust the writers to not throw a wrench into what they've already led us to believe.  I feel like there has to be more to the Rousseau story.

I'm excited Lost is back, although this has been my least favorite season so far. At the end when Jack said to Juliet, "After all I've been through, I deserve some answers!" I thought that was a definite nod to fan frustration this year and the general fatigue with so much emphasis on the "mythology" without really explaining what's going on.

I agree, as soon as Juliet mentioned having her ex be hit by a bus, I knew he would be. Maybe it was a little over the top, but the whole concept of this show is over the top so that didn't bother me. It just underscores that the Others -- fertility docs or Dharma Intiative or whatever -- are a dangerous, powerful group with a reach beyond the island.

Looking forward to seeing the beach group again next week!

I agree, you could see the hit by a bus thing coming as soon as Juliet said it. I didn't think they would actually show it quite like that, but again, this is LOST, so anything is possible.

I think that Juliet was definitely taken to, uh 'Portland,' aka, the Island, against her will. I don't completely trust her, but I think that's because she can be influenced by Ben, not because she's inherently evil.

Did anyone else notice that during the Karl brainwashing scene that the name 'Jacob' flashed on the screen? Remember earlier in the season when Tom (Zeke) was talking to one of the other goonies and said, 'Shepherd wasn't even on Jacob's list.' Another easter egg for us.

Agreed that Alex is definitely Rousseau's daughter. And Ben is the adopted father, but Alex is unaware of this.

I liked how they brought Ethan back into the story. It was interesting that she saw him walking down the hall at her sister's apartment. And also, during the recruitment video, there were Dharma symbols on the screen. And obviously, the recruiter mentioned how they are privately funded-- hello, Hanso Foundation, aka Penelope, Desmond's girlfriend's father (at least that's the current assumption).

Wheee!  I finally watched this episode today online.  I have a few thoughts:

1)  I think that Carl knows the truth that Ben is not Alex's real father and knows what happened in Alex's past and that's why Ben wants Carl on the other island.

2)  I believe Juliette.  Granted, she's a little odd, but so far, she hasn't given us reason to think that she doesn't tell the truth.  I also feel like I've personally had it with some of the curveballs the producers have thrown us and I'm thinking that they're not going to throw too many curveballs our way for a little while.

3)  In the first season's special features on dvd, the producers were talking about how in the beginning of planning the show, they loosely planned out 6 years.  So, I don't think that they're just flying by the seat of their pants--I think they will eventually wrap up a lot of the loose ends by the time the series is over.

4)  I missed the previews for next week, but I'm glad to see Sawyer and Kate heading back to the main island.  What got me hooked on the show in Season 1 was the dynamic that the entire cast had and it sucks that they've spread them all out and gotten away from the group as a whole.  I hope that we see more of them all together.

The previews for this week show Kate and Sawyer getting back to the island and trying to recruit a group to go save Jack. I'll be glad to see Sayid and Locke again.

And what was the last we saw of Sun and Jin? I don't even remember what's going on with them.
