dry/rough skin?

I do not know what's going on with my skin -- can someone help? A couple of days ago, I noticed that my cheeks were feeling sort of rough, and looked drier than normal. I figured I needed to exfoliate/moisturize more  (I used to do the Oil of Olay microdermabrasion treatment once a week, but have cut back to 2x/month because I am using an AHA moisturizer). So I used the Olay treatment, and now my cheeks are rougher than before! I looked up close, and they actually look rough, which I have never noticed before. It's like the pores are bigger all of a sudden. What is going on? Is this dry skin? They don't feel dry or tight, and there aren't bumps on them like an allergic reaction, just a really rough texture. Help! Has this ever happened to anyone else? Any ideas?!? I washed with super-gentle soap last night and didn't wear makeup today, but they feel the same.

FYI, I have combination skin and it hasn't been cold here at all.

Hmm...I don't know if it is something more serious, but I live in a frozen tundra (or so it seems lately) and have naturally dry skin. I use Origins Drink Up mask when my skin feels rough and as BellinaJessica mentioned recently, their Modern Friction scrub. Both work wonders for me.

Have you tried a hydrating moisturizer with no AHA's?  One I really like is by Collective Wellbeing, it's called Night Quenching Cream.  It's very gentle.

I would recommend taking a break from irritating scrubs and cleansers - maybe just using cetaphil and a moisturizer with no anti-aging stuff...sometimes too much irritation with harsher products can make you dry and irritated.
