MissMe, the color was custom-blended to match the rug...in the family room. I schlepped that rug (the closeup is on the Flickr page) to Home Depot so they could match the khaki color. I liked the end result so much I ended up using it in the living room along with the olive green, which isn't shown in the pictures.

ViviDogWear, regarding the bench, all we really know is that it's more than 100 years old and it was discovered in a warehouse with a bunch ofother furniture and junk piled on top of it. The furniture dealer asked to look through the pile, found the bench, and made an offer.

I should give a plug for Tara Home, a store in Venice, CA (www.tara-home.com) as the source of the Chinese bench, the teak dining room furniture, and assorted accent pieces. Too often the sourcing of "ethnic" furniture and antiques represent an unfortunate side of colonial capitalism, but I am happy to report that Tara Home demonstrates all the good of multicuturalism and none of the bad. In short, they aren't stripping sacred temples piece by piece to make cocktail tables for the American bourgeois.

The stove was from an amazing woman who had it for sale on Craigslist. Her email bounced back last time I tried to shoot her a picture of "her" stove in its new home. It's a bummer of all time, since she was so sad to have to part with it and I really wanted her to see it glorified in its new home. The fridge came from the appliance rehab company, http://www.wayhome.com/gar/gar.html - the owner was working on our stove and called us to ask if we were interested in an old refrigerator he'd just gotten in. It was a perfect match.
