ipod emergency!

Okay, so my laptop had a virus and I had to wipe the harddrive clean and start over.  All my music was still on my ipod though so I thought it would be okay.  Well, on my new itunes I had loaded a couple new cds.  Last night, I plugged my ipod in and all my music from my ipod popped up but said it was connected to a different computer (all the songs were grey and I couldn't click on them).  It asked if I wanted to transfer the new songs (those two cds) and I said yes.  Well, it erased ALL my music and now my ipod only has like 20 songs on it from the new cds!  Is there any way to recover all my music and videos??

This EXACT thing happened to me..and unfortunately ALL the music is lost. There's no getting it back. I had over 5000 songs totally erased. I had to learn the hard way that you need to back-up your hard-drive.

That message that pops up when you plug into a new computer is BULL SHIT - it's so confusing and not at all clear what you're supposed to do. It should have a box pop up that says something like, "Are you sure you want to do this? Doing this will delete all songs not on this harddrive" or something.

I'm sorry..I feel your pain.

Yeah, I kind of figured there was nothing I could do.  But seriously, where did all my stuff GO?  It just poofed into nowhere?  So frustrating!  I totally agree that that message is BS--the way it was worded I did not know it would delete all my stuff!  And I thought that since the ipod IS a harddrive it would be okay--but no.  Arghhh.  I put all my cds on again but tons of stuff was music and videos I purchased through itunes.

Oh well, just let this serve as a warning to anyone who gets a new computer...do NOT click yes on the message that pops up asking you to sync it without backing up first.

Yeah, we learned that when my son clicked away and lost music that way.  I "think" you can contact itunes to get your purchased music back. Especially if you still have the e-reciepts.  I would call to find out, it's worth a try.
