I voted for Vegas because the bride wants to go there and I am sure you would be able to find affordable flights from the Bay Area. Hawaii would be super sweet, but it is mucho expensive. Have fun

Personally I prefer to stay local. My sister is my MOH for my wedding in October. We've been talking about doing a spa day or wine tasting and then going out in San Francisco and staying in a hotel downtown.

We are doing this because I know the girls are already spending money on their dresses, travel, etc. Plus there are options for people who might want to go home early or start up late.

However if everyone wants to travel I think Vegas would be more affordable than Hawaii!

These were my thoughts, exactly! But the future sister-in-law, who couldn't even afford to pay for her bridesmaid dress, is voting for Las Vegas. Go figure!

As for Hawaii, packages for 3 days are the same price as packages to Las Vegas for the same amount of time.

Maybe it's just me but traveling to another city for a bachelorette party sounds like a hassle to me, especially since San Francisco would be so convenient for you and such a great city. So I would stay in SF.

I agree with this. What about getting a limo tour of Napa? That way everyone can drink and you can end up back in San Fran without anyone driving. Then maybe a night out in the city?

ditto. Destination bachellorette parties only work when everyone has a lot of money to spare, IMO. Being a bridesmaid is so expensive as-is, and with San Francisco so close I don't see a good enough reason to go all out. But then again, I'm not really into big weddings anyway, so that's just my opinion. But I know a lot of people stress out about affording weddings, when they're supposed to be a celebration!

I like keeping it close. I was a first year associate at a big law firm when I got married - and my maids planned a fabulous weekend in LA when they lived in NYC and Austin. I also had a bunch of friends who flew in from the East Coast and Chicago for it - and it was so sweet of them to travel so far. It really meant a lot to me, and since I had to work for part of the weekend - it was so nice to have it in my home city! Really, I'm sure the bride will appreciate spending time with you all - no matter what you end up doing!

i also agree with keeping it close. my girlfriends are all coming in from SC, CA, IN, MD and DE for my shower and we decided to have the bachelorette party the same weekend. they all suggested going somewhere but i just thought it would be a lot easier to do it in my hometown...

It sounds to me like the SIL is looking for a rowdy weekend away from home. That might be an issue...

I agree about the cost and convenience for everyone being a major factor to consider. Does SIL have a husband who will pay the credit card bills?

Hawaii seems a bit extreme to me for a bachelorette weekend. How do you top that for a honeymoon?

However, if SF or Napa is TOO local, there's Santa Barbara or SLO for wining and dining. SB is great because you can get a wonderful hotel for far less than Bay Area prices yet you still have the typical State Street pub crawl that the locals indulge in, and wine tasting or whatnot is a party bus or limo away. I have a travel person in SB who would happily set you up - anna@mrsweddingtravel.com. No cost to you, the hotels kick her back.

It's an easily doable road trip from the Bay Area (rent a hybrid or a convertible for maximum fun) and so beautiful, laid-back and resorty, but also cosmopolitan and trendy. (I used to live in SB so I am biased.)

I completely agree with this. Being a bridesmaid can be so expensive already and traveling for a weekend is kind of asking a lot from people. San Fran is such a great city! But like ttara, I'm not really into huge weddings either so that's just my opinion.
