silly poll! if you have or have ever had roommates...

Do you ever use their shampoo, shower gel, etc in the shower?  Do you feel bad about it?  Do you hide your own stuff because you're scared that they'll use your stuff? (When i'm restless I like to start posts and just wait around til someone answers!)

My answers:
Yes, on occasion i do, and i don't feel bad about it.  I don't bother telling them, even though i've had roommates ask if they could try my shampoo for example.  I always think, why are you even asking me, you could just use it and i'd never know.  But maybe i should note that I've always been friends with my roommates and they don't use expensive products.  Also, I have most of the stuff in the shower- probably 5 shower gels, etc. so i rarely see the need to use their stuff.  But if i'm in the mood for a different thing, on occasion, yea, i'll use my roommates.

Personally, i don't hide anything except my conditioner (tiny tube was $35!).  I have a lot of products and I tend to give them to my roommates when i'm sick of them (just gave away my philosophy cinnabun shower gel- i never used it!)

Every now and then I'll steal a bit -- if I'm out of something or if something looks intriguing.    Once I lived with someone who was constantly stealing a ton of my expensive body wash so when I got some new stuff I hid it for a while!  But that was the only time something like that ever happened.

I don't have a roommate now but when I lived with my last roomie in the sorority house I use to dig in her makeup bag because it was filled with brands carried at sephora and the closest sephora was over 4 hours away.

When I had roommates, we did use each other's stuff occasionally, but we always asked each other. I preferred it that way - sure, I'd never know if she used my stuff, but I'm glad that she did ask. Plus, I don't like to share some things, like eye makeup, that she wouldn't think twice about sharing, so I'm glad she asked so I could tell her "no" and I saved myself from any eyeball germs! The last time I had roommates was like two years ago, and there were four of us living in a house together with two bathrooms, so there were two people to a bathroom and we rarely, if ever, used the others' bathrooms. A few times I borrowed stuff from my bathroom-mate, because we were really good friends, and her stuff was right there. I think I borrowed something from one of the other two maybe once! I think I used one girl's hairspray one day when mine was out, and I might have snuck up to that bathroom just once or twice to find a tampon or something.

But sharing was never a big issue, because my bathroom-mate and I used very different products, just because we had different needs, so we rarely had a desire to use each other's.

Not really - I am sort of particular about scent and don't like a lot of bath products on that ground alone!  I really enjoyed the variety of pretty bottles in the shower though!

Funny poll! Well, at least I think it's funny because I totally used to use all my roommates stuff when I was in college. A lot of times I would be too busy, lazy, or poor to go get new shampoo and conditioner and I'd keep forgetting because I knew if I didn't get it I could always just use a tiny bit of someone elses. I had three roommates so I'd just rotate between who I'd use from each morning.

I also totally used to eat my roommates food - especially stuff like ice cream or cookies or stuff I normally wouldn't buy. I used to call it "sampling."

I did, but only once. I used my roommate's shampoo once without asking her. I didn't really feel guilty about it, since it was like VO5 shampoo that cost 99 cents.  I just liked the way it smelled and my shampoo was running out and I didn't have any time to go out and buy my own.  Generally, sharing products was never a problem because we all had different needs. Although I suspect my roommate was using my towels because I would go home over the weekend sometimes, come back and notice my towel bleached in some areas. (she used Proactiv, which tends to do that)  I never confronted her or anything, I just took home my towels when I went home on the weekends.

Never.  I do not take things without asking even if I have been given permission to do so.  That is completely dishonest in my opinion.  When I lived in my sorority house the girls I shared my bathroom with used my good hair products, makeup, etc without asking me all of the time and it really upset me.  Considering the fact that they got monthly allowances of over $1000 from their daddies and I was paying for college and my living expenses on my own I had every right to be pissed.  I just think it is so completely rude.

I've never had roommates, but a friend of mine lived with me (with my parents) for a few months when she was going through a rough patch. I was always afraid that she'd use my shampoo, so I'd hide it in the linen closet under the towels. Other than the short time she was here, I leave all of my toiletries out for all to see and try... meaning my sister and mother (and my father, if he really wanted to ). I use my sister's shampoo sometimes, just to switch it up, and I know that she uses mine; no big deal. We all share Philosophy 3-in-1s... I believe we have about six kinds in the tub right now.

I went on vacation last summer with my bf and another couple. We stayed in a two bedroom, one bath villa...we all had our own place on the vanity counter to put our stuff. One morning the girl came out into the kitchen and said "wow, Sandy, I've never tried those 3-in-1 things; it really does smell like a margarita!" She didn't ask to use it, and if I were her I wouldn't have said anything. I wasn't mad, just a little weirded out... and I didn't feel bad that for the rest of the week I used her eye makeup remover.

Maybe she didn't use it.  She could have just opened the top and smelled it...

I never used any of my roomates products but I have one girlfriend inparticular that I always ask to use her stuff.  She is a total makeup whore - and knows it - so I'm not offending her!
I cannot stand for "people" to use my stuff - it makes me insane.  Hubby and close friends are not "people."  My brother's girlfriend is.  Before I was married she would ALWAYS be at our house and ALWAYS using ALL my things.  I would have to take all of my toiletries back and forth to the bathroom w/ me everyday or she would use it.  I finally got soooooooo mad that I put Nair in my own hair conditioner and left it in the shower just hoping she would use it

I used to use one of my roommates stuff on occasion, and I always felt guilty about it. But eww, one of my roommates used my bar of soap a few times. I couldn't use it after that, it was just too weird/gross.
