Eagerly anticipating DV boots..need tips on suede

I have been reading these boards for a while and you girls have definitely gotten me exicted about my newest purchase...chocolate Dolce Vita boots with the cuff at the top.  My questions is - they are suede - and I have never owned suede boots before.  What can I do to keep them from getting stained?  Any recs on good protectants, or will any kind do?  I have seen them in spray bottles before...this is what I need, right?

First, welcome!

Second, I would get a suede protectant spray - it's a good thing to have on hand in general.

I also have a suede cleaning kit - it's this chalk like bar and a brush. Just rub the chalk thing on the spot that needs cleaning then brush with the brush. It's a little hard on the suede though, so use a soft hand if you decide to use one (it's really good for matted suede.)
