I post over on another website occassionally.  It is a website for people who sew (the board is for Heirloom Smocking and Sewing).  Anyway, there is a category in that board called Sewing for Women. I do a little sewing and have altered my own clothing when I thought it would be simple.  Well, I posted these pants yesterday and asked your opinions on them.  I got to thinking last night that I might could alter them.  They fit perfectly in the waist and across the stomach, but they are too big in the rear.  I posted the pic below on that website hoping for some help.  I couldn't decide if taking a seam down the side of the leg would work.  Also, since the pants were $81 I didn't want to risk messing them up and then not being able to return them.  Anyway, the only reponse I got to my question was this--"Looooorrrrrriiiiiii....GET THE STICK!!!"  I don't know who the person is that responded but Lori is one of the hostesses of the board.  What do you think they meant?  That message board has always been very helpful regarding my questions about altering.

My guess would be that she meant a pregnancy test (you know, pee on a stick) which is ridiculous because you don't look pregnant.  I'd ask her what she meant, maybe she was trying to reply to a different thread since she called you a different name???

They responded back and said it was a private joke between two members and that no harm was meant by it. They told me to send back the pants--the alteration would be way too much of a pain to do--especially for the price the pants were.

That's actually what it sounds like to me. Sorta like..."What a stupid question! She should be beaten with the stupid question stick!". WTF! And for the record...your question was not stupid in the slightest.

It sounds mean either way - get the stick could only mean that you need to be punished.  Sounds ignorant and stupid, especially coming from a sewing forum!  Gah!

I think it was rude that she replied to your post with a personal joke that you were not aware of. I do not think she was being a very nice person and didn't want to admit to it when you asked.

Hi Bloomie,

Read that they responded to you in error - yeah -it's a stranfge comment for sure.

Regarding the pant alterations.  It would be difficult - you can't really take it in from the inseam since that is the grainline. Your best bet is to take it in along the cneter back seam and the rise seam . Th tricky part and most important is the rise and to folow the correct curve and determine how much of a curve to take in.  It is difficult and unless you're really good at altering, I'd suggest taking it to a specialist or returning it.  Love the color though!
