Guest seating for a small apartment
Permalink Closed

I live in New York City, and although my apartment is a "nicely sized one bedroom" by Manhattan standards, it is probably a closet compared to what most of you are used to!!!

Our living room has a sofa and a dining table with four wooden dining chairs.  They aren't particularly comfy though.  Most of our entertaining includes having two or three friends over to watch tv.  Therefore, we'd like to get temporary seating that is comfortable, and can be stored away when guests aren't here. Can any of you recommend any ideas that would work for a grown-up apartment?  We aren't super picky, but much of what I see looks like it was very much intended for a dorm room.

Thank you!

If I was in your shoes, I'd make my dining chairs do double duty!  That is, I'd choose some upholstered dining chairs that are comfy enough to serve as nice seating when it's TV time:

Leather Parsons Chair with Tufting - BlackMicrosuede Parsons Chair - Ivory/ Antique Black - Asia Modern
Peat Microfiber Chair - Set of 2Auburn Microfiber Chair - Set of 4
Otherwise, you could go with directors chairs:
Director’s Chair - Black Frame
Other options:

Folding Wood Chair (Colombia)

(stackable)

Good luck!

I'm not sure what your decorating style is like, but I think these Moroccan poufs would look really cool in an ecelectic room:

They come in a ton of colors and can double as an ottoman when people aren't sitting on them.

I'm not sure what your decorating style is, but we have a similar size apt...we use our rolling desk chair when we have guests, but i don't like having to do that.

We got storage thingy-s that are meant to be seating as well (unless, like us, you store heavy stuff in them and they are too heavy to move) from Container Store (they have them at the UES and the Chelsea locations)
http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?CATID=62565&PRODID=67277
we got the "natural" color bc it matches our couch.

also West Elm has some great cube things that are good for seating and you can get a cheap (or not) tray at BBBeyond or TJMaxx or West Elm(maybe) to put on top for you to use as a table when there's no one there but you.
WEST ELM:

You cld just go to 6th Ave and hit BBBeyond, Container Store, TJMAxx and I think West Elm is on 16/17/or 18th, either way right near City Bakery (my constant landmark)

let us know how it goes
ps. anyone else wish we had spell check on this?
