HIVES! Help me!
Permalink Closed

On Monday I developed a few hives* along both of my wrists.  I had just taken down my artificial Christmas tree so I assumed they were because of that--the tree usually bothers my skin for some reason.  I also had some dental fillings put in but I didn't think they were related.  The hives itched a little but went away after a few hours.

Now today I have more around my wrists and along my forearm, a small patch on my left upper thigh, around one of my ankles, and along my braline (I was just wearing a shelf-bra tank).  They are getting pretty itchy.

I don't think I have eaten anything different and I haven't changed soaps or detergents so why is this happening?  I am just going to shower and put on some hydrocortisone cream and see what happens.  Does this sound serious--like should I go to the ER (really really don't want to do that)?  I am seeing my doctor next week for other reasons so I could ask about this then.

*eta:  Maybe they are not hives but is actually a rash?  It is still puzzling to me though!

hmm...I have gotten hives before (or what I believed were hives). It's usually when I was really stressed about something or anxious. They went away in a day or less. If you have them for longer, then maybe you should get it checked out. You could be having some sort of reaction to something (dont know what ).

Hopefully these end up going away soon.

A couple of summers ago, I got Hives from Laundry Detergert. I had them for like a month before I figured out what it was from. Finally, I figured it out and I just used very gentle soaps and used cream and they finally went away like 2 weeks later. I was really stressed at the time, so I do not think that helped much either. It shouldn't take long to go away, if it last more than a week, I say make an appt. with the dermo.

Rub on hydrocortisone cream - you can get it at the drug store or even Costco.  Relief for rashes and skin irritations

An OTC anti-histamine should help a lot.  Try a generic Benadryl maybe?  Talk to the pharmacist first if you are on any other medications or have HBP & good luck!

I talked to my doctor when I saw her on Wednesday and she thinks it is eczema and gave me a prescription steriod cream.  I am also using hydrocortisone and anti-histamine by mouth as well as taking those oatmeal baths and it has gotten better.

Thanks for the replies!
