This is really difficult for me to ask, Is it bad if you only go #2 lets say....once a week?  DH says you should "go" once a day or at least every other day.

haha dont be embarrassed. My bf goes at least once a day if not more. But I go only once every 3 days maybe. I never really thoguht it was weird. I would only be worried if you feel like you have to go but cant.

Maybe guys are just gross.

Everybody has their own schedule, but I'd say once a week is pushing it.  Not eating enough, not eating enough fiber, dehydration, stress, taking certain medications/supplements, etc can all cause things to move more slowly.

I'd probably try to fiddle with some of the above and see what effect it has because going more often than that is probably better for you.  However, if this isn't a new thing, you've not made any big changes to your life/diet/activity level, and you're not feeling badly, then maybe your body is just really .... efficient!

I think you're supposed to go about once a day, and it can even be normal if you go more than that. Once a week, though, is kind of odd. It doesn't sound like you're uncomfortable, but constipation that lasts a whole week can result in pain, bloating, etc. You might try introducing more fruits/vegetables into your diet, or a fiber cereal?

Do you drink enough water?  I used to be just like you...and it didn't bother me at all.  Then when I stopped drinking so much caffeine and drank more water, I started going more frequently.  I still am not daily.

I think the only problem is that if things hang out in your colon/intestines, there are bigger risks for infection and eventually (years later) can cause cancers.

I must be boy on the inside   I really work on getting enough fiber in my diet, 25 to 35 grams per day - most of the time I "go" daily.

I must be boy too then. I go every morning before I hope in the shower.  If I don't go at the time, I usually go at some point during the day.  I try to eat a lot of fiber too though...

I only go twice a week or so and I know I should drink more water and eat more fiber to become more regular. I think exercise should help, too. I know I should go more often but I've always been like this.

I guess I'm a boy too...


I go at LEAST once a day, maybe twice. My BF is the same. We both drink lots of fluids (mostly water/green tea/Vitamin water, etc.) and we try to eat a lot of fiber.


I used to go every couple of days before I started eating healther in general, though. I'd mess around with diet first and see if that makes any changes.

i agree, im not a daily go-er either...and my so says the same thing to me all the time..try to get some more fiber, i remember in college, i ate alot of frosted mini wheats as breakfast and as a snack and i definitely went more often...

I talked to my doctor about this a few years ago since I have slight IBS and usually in high stress/anxiety times I get the opposite problem so I have meds to deal with it.  But I have found that when I get stressed now that I don't go which is a problem for me.  I was going once every 3 to 4 days when I talked with him and he gave me the other pills to use for times like that so I think "normal" is considered once every day or two.

In order to avoid taking my meds I tend to eat a bowl of oatmeal with a banana in it each morning or a bowl of kashi go lean crunch with fruit.  I am going before I have to head to work and good for the rest of the day.

i go maybe every other day. it used to be more like every 3-4 days, but i've made a conscious effort to get more fiber in my diet. shredded mini-wheats are great for getting a daily dose of fiber.

now y'all have me thinking I should talk to the doctor....I drink lots of water and eat TONS of fiber (sometimes I wonder if its too much)...but I've only gone about once a week for as long as I can remember.

Minimum of once a day...if I don't, my guts can tell.  It cannot be healthy to keep all that stuff inside you for a whole week!  If you don't get fiber from your everyday foods add something like metamucil.

I'm definitely a boy - I have IBS, too, and I have meds now so I'm pretty regular at once a day when I'm on them. But I can't imagine not going for a week. This past weekend I took too many of my pills because I was trying to be extra-sure I wouldn't have a problem at a party I was going to, and I didn't go all weekend. I was seriously in pain after two days without going to the bathroom.

Definitely increase your fiber intake like the other girls suggested. I take 2 fiber choice tablets everyday and I eat applesauce along with a ton of water. I usually go everyday but sometimes everyother day.

I am not a doctor but I do know that food breaks down in your system and releases toxins the longer the food is in your body the more toxins are being released.  This is important in the prevention of distressing diseases such as bowel cancer or other cancers, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, haemorrhoids and diverticulitis. I would talk to your doctor for sure if you are already getting the 25+ grams of fiber you need and drinking lots of water exercise helps too! good luck!
