I went to Target today with a friend and tried on a sweater dress that fit me perfectly. I can't find a picture online, but it was red and had sleeves like this:
while I was always okay with this kind of sleeves when I saw them on here before, my friend said that he thought they looked weird and thought I shouldn't get the dress because of that. They didn't have my size in the color I wanted anyway, so I didn't buy the dress and will wait for it to go online to check back at the store in a few days.
But what do you guys feel about these kind of sleeves? Are they too weird? Would it stop you from buying an otherwise pretty dress? Honest opinions, please! Now I'm second guessing myself because he really didn't like them and I never really had an opinion on them. Thanks!

assuming it isn't too bell-sleevey (does that make sense?), i think it adds a more feminine touch to a top/dress. i personally don't wear tops like that, but i've seen others pull it off beautifully.
oh I'm so glad you all like them! I wasn't sure what I thought, but I was hoping it wasn't a big enough issue to keep me from buying the dress.
I just had to make sure I wasn't making some grave fashion error like my friend thought I was
I love them, and I have to add, the vast majority of men I know (including many gays) just don't get women's clothing. I think for the most part men's fashion doesn't change much from year to year, so they don't like anything unique. I

I know guys don't really "get" women's clothing, but I guess that concerns me in and of itself, because guys are 50% of the people who will see me in a given outfit, and sometimes the most important!

no, but it is close! I looked at that picture for a minute trying to decide if it was while I creating this post! But the sleeves on the one I tried on were definitely like the sweater I posted, if I tucked the straight bottom part back up in, it wouldn't have been the right length. Plus, the red was a bit brighter. It was in the junior's section, and I'm pretty sure the brand was xhiliration, but I could be wrong.

I have that sweater, too, and I love that kind of sleeves! In fact, I have a couple of other tops with sleeves like that and I pretty much bought them because of the sleeves.
I have the exact dress you're talking about. The sleeves bothered me at first, but I actually like them now. I have pics in threadstyle. Also, I don't know about you, but the sleeves were sort of absurdly long on me, but I washed & dried it and they shrunk in length -- now it's perfect.
