Outfit Challenge: Engagement Pictures!
Permalink Closed

Hi guys!

FH and I are having our engagement session in a few weeks and I need to start thinking about what I want to wear.  The photographers said to wear solid colors and they prefer the girls in heels (which I always wear so no problem there!) but to just dress like we usually would.

thought i should add- our photographs are going to be outside at a really cool building, in front (or on!) an ice skating rink and then inside at a bar with cocktails!

FH and I thought about doing jeans with sweaters.  I love jeans but I hate myself in photographs in jeans.  I think I look too hippy.  The more I think about it- the more I think that i would prefer to wear a skirt/dress with tights & knee boots.  I feel "me" in this outfit.  and FH loves any excuse to wear his sweaters and/or button downs from BR

can anyone help or give suggestions as to what you wore on your sessions?

tia!

* boo!  i'm having a hard time inserting emoticons!!!  they keep going to the bottom of the text!

i think you should wear a dress - i think for my engagement pics that's what i'll do too.

i was thinking of wearing a wrap dress b/c i think it's timesless w/ some classic jewelry and round pumps.

What about your DVF dress?  It looks so good on you.  Would it be too much print?

ugh- it won't let me quote... luckylily: they pretty much said "no prints" so DVF is out. plus, i guess i should add that we are going to be outside for the shots around the building and ice skating rink. so unless the weather shoots back up to 60 degree weather again really soon, we'll be wearing coats and scarves for some of our pictures.

argh!  i'm just struggling with what to wear so much.  part of me thinks jeans and a sweater would be "normal" but then i really really like the way i feel in a dress/skirt with knee boots...

What about a denim skirt, or a sweater dress? They could be casual still, and a denim skirt would still keep the "jeans" feel, but you could wear your boots.

My good GF wore a sleek long black halter dress in her pics and her husband wore a white button down w/black slacks.  Although youras is more winter-themed (hers was at the beach) - I think similar principles could apply.  Their outfits were timeless and classic and looked great in the pics without being a focal point.

I agree w/Lucklily, a DVF type wrap dress would look great!

I really like the idea of a denim skirt with cute knee boots. You can still do a sweater that way and wear a skirt. Hmm, does a denim skirt negate the possibility of an on-the-ice-rink photograph? Would that look silly to wear a skirt while out on the ice?

You should do a search for Elle's engagement shots...I think they were on here somewhere. I remember her's were pretty casual but looked great. I'm also pretty sure that some of them had denim on in the shots.

FH is into shopping and clothes, right? This should make it a little easier, I hope. I would just say play around in your closet and maybe just take some pics at home in the outfits to see how they would look.

This is what I'm thinking too.  Jeans, sweater and cute coat outside and then dress or skirt outfit for inside and maybe a few outside (not on ice skating rink though, I think jeans are best for that).  I'm sure you'll look fab!

I have mine soon too!

We are doing all the photos outdoors (by the CA state capitol) so I'm planning on wearing a jewel-tone sweater (not sure which color yet) with some nice jeans and changing to a different sweater and skirt w/ boots halfway through.

I love the idea of two outfits, but my husband would have never gone for it. He wanted to get them over as quick as possible, because he hated getting his picture taken. The main thing I can tell you is not where green. I wore green since it is my favorite color and it was great for most pictures. But then there were a few were we were on the grass at the park, these were my favorites but we blended into the grass! I have always liked the pictures where the couples complimented each other rather than matching. Try to go as simple as possible because then they will remain more timeless and the focus is more on you versus the outfit. Have a great time!!!

I like the idea of two different outfits. If this is not possible go with what  "feels like you"(dress/boots). you are going to look beautiful no matter what you wear
