So since Jan.2nd I've been on a diet and working out. I've only lost 2lbs...normally weight pretty much falls off when i'm dieting and exercising, but I think I found out why it's not...

Apparently the pill I've been taking for my diabetes (Actos) actually makes you gain weight! That is soo freaking frustrating. No wonder weight has been coming off so slowly, I've been fighting an uphill battle.

Do you girls have any suggestions for how you deal with pills that make you gain weight? I can't stop taking it (obviously) and don't want to switch meds because it's been really effective at regulating my bloodsugar...it's just annoying!!

I don't have any suggestions on how to deal with pills that make you gain weight, but...

Are you eating multiple small meals instead of 3 regular meals? For dieting, 5-6 smaller meals is better, so you aren't always hungry. And, frommy understanding, it's a preferred way for diabetics to eat to help stabilize bloodsugar and avoid dips and spikes, but I'm not diabetic, so I can not say for certain.

Also, I recently read a good way to calculate how many calories to eat. Take your GOAL weight, and multiply by 15. That's how many calories to try to consume in a day.

Sorry I'm not more help.

I don't know if I have anything to offer as I'm in the same boat.  I've been a perfect picture of healthiness and I've lost 2lbs.  In my case, my hypothyroid meds increase apetite.  So, not only do I have a desease that slows my metabolism, but I have to take medication that makes me feel like I'm going to die if I don't eat every few hours.

I'm trying to eat lots of small meals, eat more protein, and eat more fiber.  All things that should keep me full.  I'm also trying to get in as much extra exercise as possible - like get off the bus a few blocks early just for a little extra walking.

I dunno, it's frustrating, but I think you've got to fight through the frustration and keep it up.  My hope is that the results come eventually, even if it is a little slower than most people.
