Anyone ever been on Yaz?
Permalink Closed

I'm just curious.. I've been taking it for about 3 weeks now and I don't know if it's just me being stressed out with wedding planning/grad school applications/FH out of town for work for the past month, but I am feeling totally not myself.  I've noticed that since I've started taking it I am very moody, kind of depressed in general, and cry easily.

Has anybody else on Yaz ever experienced this sort of side effect?  I know birth control affects everyone differently, but I am just wondering if it's just me or if the BC has something to do with the way I'm feeling.  I hope it does and that I'm not just gradually going crazy...

twinkle-  no, yaz is actually different from yasmine.  I think they're basically the same except yaz is just a lower dosage.  A few of my girlfriends have gone on yasmine and had the same thing happen, I just don't know of anyone who's used Yaz and had the same issues.  Glad to know it's probably not me though.

Yaz and Yasmin both have a different progestin than other pills out there.  Some people don't tolerate it well - I was on Yasmin for 3 months, and during that time had heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, dizziness, frequent crying jags, etc.  Actually, most people I've heard of on both of these pills haven't tolerated it well.

Yasmins site does have a very handy chart that groups different pills by the kind of progesin they contain.  If you can find a pill you've been on with minimal side effects in the past on the chart, you're likely to have similar experiences with other pills that contain that same kind of progestin.

HTH!

Elle- that chart is so useful!    I didn't know about the different types of progestins.  Makes total sense that I responded wayyy differently to Nuvaring than to Yaz.  I'm looking forward to getting off of the stuff... I feel nutso on it, and I'm sure FH is starting to think that too!

I was on Yasmine for 2 months and about a year later tried Yaz for 1 month.  both times I ended up extremly moody, cried, was depressed...it was a nightmare.  I searched on here last time and noticed a coupel of girls had similar reactions but some were fine on it...so it's different for everyone.  Let me know if you find one you like.  I liked that I didn't gain weight on Yasmine but I couldn't handle the other side effects!
