I'm back from Sri Lanka. How is everyone? I've been trying to wade through old posts, but it's difficult. New babies, engagments, weddings? D, how's your health? Etc, etc? What have you all been up to? I missed you!
Maddie!!!!!!!! How was Sri Lanka? Are you all worldly and don't care about fashion anymore? Do you have a hot Sri Lankan boyfriend now? (hee - I hope I spelled that right.)
Haha...I bought a pair of really hot heels in the Heathrow airport (much to the dismay of my worldy, anti-materialistic friends who had also been in Sri Lanka). No worries. And no Sri Lankan boyfriend. How's your boy?
Yay! Glad you're back and love the story about the heels... I'm really not doing anything new. Getting ready to graduate and trying to figure out what to do next. That's about it. Thanks for asking!
I don't even know where to start about the trip. It was the most fabulous thing. Here are some random pics other people have put up on Facebook...
Elephants at an elephant orphanage. I also saw elephants randomly on the side of the road and carrying things down the street and dancing in parades. An elephant in the Perahera, a parade where they put a relic of the Buddha on an elephant and march it down the street. Sigiriya rock, this place where there was a palace of ancient Sri Lankan king. Frescoes on Sigiriya. The Lion's Paw stairs that lead up to the top of Sigiriya. The view from a train in the Hill Country where it is fairly cold and they grow tea. My friend saw a train run over someon'e leg, pause for a moment, and then keep on going. Tea country. The girls in my group dressed in saris. I'm in the grayish olive one, fourth from the left. My friends having beer out of tea pots. It was a poya day (a full moon day, holy for Buddhists) when they don't sell alcohol in Sri Lanka. A beach. Sri Pada, a mountain with a footprint on top that all kinds of different religions claim belongs to someone of their tradition. I climbed this. You're only looking at the top of it. It is far and away the hardest hike I've ever been on. Steep and long. We started at 2am, got to the top at 6am to see the sunrise, and got down by 9am. The main drag in Kandy, the city I lived in. Kandy and Kandy Lake from a hill overlooking the city. University of Peradeniya, where I took my classes. My sister (she came to visit) and me in the streets of Galle, a fort city built by the Portuguese. I'm on the left. Us on some sort of outcropping in Galle. My sister being a freak inside her mosquito net. This was a really sweet Dutch house we stayed in one night. The living room/kitchen area of the house I stayed in. My sister is sitting at the kitchen table and my amma (host mother) and I are looking for something in the cabinets.
Sorry, that got longer than I meant it to. I really loved Sri Lanka and am trying to figure out how to get back there as soon as I can. My luggage is currently held up somewhere in the world, but when it comes I will post pictures of all the stuff I bought (there's a lot of it). And when I steal my sister's digital camera I'll post pics of my hot new shoes.
I also gained what I estimate to be about 75 pounds. I'm too horrified to weigh myself. Any weightloss tips?
Glad to hear everyone's doing well. D, what was the decision on the nips?

Can't wait to see the heels! My boy is good, we're good, blah, blah, blah. We're boring now. It's quite sad actually.
The pics are so beautiful. I can't even imagine how amazing your trip must have been. So are you changed now? Life altering and all?
