So I ran to the store today to buy some lacquer boxes and on my way out I passed in front of my car and noticed some weird stuff on the hood... it appears something was dripping on my hood and ate through the paint to the steel below! I'm so ticked off. I came back to my parking garage and there isn't any pipes above the area that has the spots. The area is really large and it is clear something dripped and then ran down the top.
Anyway... does anyone have any idea what this may be and has anyone had this happen to them before?
I leave my car garaged for long periods of time when I'm traveling, so I'm not 100% sure when it happened.
If anyone has any experience with this type of problem I'd appreciate info on what it generally costs to paint the hood of a car (I don't think the entire car will need repainted, just the hood). Also, do you think it will spread if I don't repaint it quickly or can I wait 6 months? I'm going away for a month next week, so I really don't want to worry about it until I get back...
Could it be bird poop? I know that it is very acidic. I didn't wash my car for a loooong time after it got pooped on and it rusted the paint. Perhaps that's what it was?
Still have no idea what it was... definitely not bird poop as it is a very large spot and would have noticed that on the top of my car. It might be acid from the lamp in my parking lot at work... just don't know! ARGH!
