Layering Necklaces help
Permalink Closed

I have tons of necklaces - I collect them like they are free. In my mind I dream of layering necklaces but every time I try I feel like they look ridiculous & end up taking off all but one, or sometimes all of them in frustration. Are there any general "rules" you use to layer necklaces - like one chunky, the rest skinny, lengths, etc? Is there any sites you visit that have good pictures that I could reference to put together a look? I'm sick of having this jewelry box overflowing with necklaces & then not incorporating them into my wardrobe!

Help.

I've had that same exact problem. I usually only wear one necklace - and that one necklace has to be dainty because otherwise I think I might look too matronly or something.

But I do love the look of a couple of delicate necklaces layered, like in this pic from freepeople.com:

I have the same problem as you. One thing I've found though is that whenever I *do* manage to pull it off, the two necklaces get all twisted up. Then it just looks like one necklace anyway.

i usually play around and see what looks best- i don't think theres one set rule.  i also like the dainty layered necklaces, though i think its equally pretty to just have one really delicate necklace on.  i don't mind mixing metals, but personally, i don't like bead strands with chains usually.  personal preference.  i like to have one long necklace and one medium length one, if i'm wearing something w/a crew cut neck or turtleneck.  i think neckline is really important, as well as the styles of the necklace.  I like to have one more delicate and one slightly tougher necklace- or both pretty delicate.  I don't usually wear a super strong necklace mixed w/other necklaces because i feel like it detracts (like a chunky marni necklace- i probably wouldn't layer it w/ a thin chain.)  And i don't like piling on thick chains/chunky necklaces because then i feel like my neck is a necklace hook and its just really distracting to me.  sorry if that doesn't help at all!!
