Oops, I just replied to your first question and voted for the taupe...but since that one now seems to be out of the question, I vote for the navy. As for size, I like the small one better--it will still hold a lot of stuff, but if I were you, I would take a look at my most-used bags and see what sizes they measure.

I thought I wanted the small until I saw the large in person @ Active Endeavors. Its pretty much the perfect size bag.

Okay! So, I decided I had too many huge bags and needed something smaller, and I was thinking the small would be good after seeing this picture of frostingfashions. I think it looks pretty substantial.

Anyhoo, I went to AE one day and they had one navy large on display. It wasn't huge, which is what I was fearing. It seemed like a lightweight bag, which is also a criteria for me now after buying one too many heavy bags. I was kind of pissed that I saw it, because now I'm totally conflicted. I still haven't seen the small in person. I like big bags - I have a long commute and need books, water bottles, etc., but I don't have that many bags that are good for when I don't need to bring my whole house with me. This bag seemed like a happy medium.

I really don't know what to tell you since I haven't seen both in person. But I will tell you that no matter what size you get, the navy is gorgeous, soft, versatile and has a really pretty lining. Lining is important to me when I'm spending a lot of money.
