ever since i saw this pic taken by Sartorialist (yesterday, heh) i can't get it out of my mind. would getting a cape be a mis-step in the long run? I'm afraid that i will only get one years wear out of it before i "come to my senses"........
thoughts? suggestions for the purchase?
(the jcrew one is OK, but somehow i am not in love with it)
When I read "cape", my first thought was ewww. Then I saw that picture and thought wow. What a very nice classic look. I love it and can't see it being dated in a year.
I think the look is great but I just don't know how practical it is. I have a vintage sweater-ish cape & I wore it once - I couldn't wear a shoulder bag because you'd have to wear it under, which is bulky - or push your arm all the way through which defeats the purpose because it looks odd. If you are a short handle person I imagine that won't matter, it's just things I didn't think about. Also when I was shopping it was an issue to carry around shopping bags + a purse....etc etc. I guess my point is that it's more of an outfit piece, not a practical coat. (I live in TX so I don't need several varieties of coats).
Don't mean to rain on your parade, I am just being sensible.

I don't know how I feel. It kind of looks like someone cut holes in the sleeves of a coat and stuck their arms out of it. I'd have to see it IRL...but as far as the trendiness goes, I can't see it being outdated so soon because it's not super trendy or anything.

I got one for $40 or so from Newport News. The quality is pretty good, IMO and the price was pretty great too. I like the silouhette (sp?) of it, but wasn't sure if the look would stand the test of time. If it doesn't stand the test of time, then I've only spent $40 on it, so not a big deal.
