Favorite Brownies?
Permalink Closed

I am searching for a good brownie recipe.  I have a good one from the big Gourmet cookbook, and another good one from Glamour magazine a few years ago (of all places).  I'm looking for a big recipe that is really fudgy and rich.  Thanks!

The Moosewood Brownies. They are hands down the most amazing chocolate creation I have ever tasted. You must must must try them:

Moosewood Fudge Brownies

butter for pan
5 oz. (5 squares) unsweetened chocolate
1/2 lb. (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
1 3/4 cups (packed) light brown sugar (white sugar also ok)
5 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup flour (use 3/4 cup for fudgier brownies)

1) Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Preheat oven to 350.
2) Gently melt the chocolate. Let is cool for about 10 minutes.
3) Cream the butter and sugar in a medium-sized bowl until light and fluffy.
4) Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in the vanilla.
5) Stir constantly as you drizzle in the melted chocolate. After all the chocolate is in, beat well for a minute or two.
6) Stir in flour and possible embellishments (1 cup walnuts or pecans, 1 tsp. orange rind, 1/2 tsp, cinnamon, small ripe banana, 2 to 4 Tbs. black coffee, or nothing). Mix just enough to blend thoroughly.
7) Spread the batter into the prepared pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Cut into squares while still hot, then allow to cool for at least 10 minutes, if you can wait that long.

**that's the exact recipe, trust me, you will not be disappointed:)

I love the ghiradelli turtle brownie mix (carmel topping).  it is delicious.  A friend of mine in high school's mom use to just add chocolate and espresso beans to regular brownie mix and it made the best tasting brownies together but I don't know the proportions to add in.

Thanks!  I will have to try that recipe.  Moosewood always makes me smile because my husband grew up near the restaurant and one of his good friends worked there. Aurora, I sent DH to the grocery store tonight to pick up a box...I will report on how they taste!

Not really a recipe, but I a brownie fiend and I actually find that the No-Pudge Fat Free Brownies are incredible and not really bad for you.  I get the mix at Whole Foods.  You just add a container of FF Vanilla Yogurt (I use Stonyfield Farm) and bake.  They are great as a sweet reat that you don't have to feel guilty about.  They have raspberry and mint flavors as well.

Another note:  the raspberry ones are great with a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt and a small drizzle of raspberry syrup, yummmmmmmm!

I love me some No-Pudge with walnuts. I made then with walnuts and I think BF and I had half the pan the night we baked them. I use Trader Joe's organic vanilla yogurt and get my mix at TJs as well.

My old boss used to make Ghiradelli brownies and those were really amazing too. I think she said hers were triple-chocolate flavored or something like that.
