The BF and another friend and I are thinking about going to Korea soon. I know just about nothing about it other than I've heard that Seoul is AWESOME and that they don't like white people/guys outside of Seoul. It would be an interesting opportunity all the same. Are there places, things, food, etc. that MUST be experienced? TIA. I apologize for the pretty vague plea for help.
I'm korean and the last time I was in Korea was 5 years ago. Since then, I have hear that things have changed and it is a lot more common to see foreigners (ie caucasian people). I would love to go back in the next couple of years as I have family there. Also, i was underage the last time I went so I would love to go back now that I'm older. One thing you must do is to venture outside of Seoul into the country side---is it so beautiful, especially the old villages. I would alo try to book a cheap flight out to je ju do (Sp?)--but basically it is an island off of south korea, and a lot of korean couples go out there to honeymoon. it's kind of like hawaii but not as tropical. you can take a hike through dormant volcanoes or lay out on the beach--but just a fair warning, they are REALLY packed.
Also, you must eat eat eat while you are there. THeyhave really good, really cheap food.
Also, shop!! They have tons of "swap meet" type places and you can try and bargain for a good deal.
Anyway, if y ou have any other questions you can PM me.
My husband travels there often on business. He said it was cheap 5 years ago, but it no longer is. He said it has become a cosmopolitan and expensive city -- similar to Tokyo.
