i have 2 cavalier king charles spaniels and love them to bits. they are very similar to english toy's, but their faces aren't as smooshy. honestly, i don't know if they are similar personality wise but i would think they probably are. my dogs are the sweetest most loving dogs i have ever had. they aren't the smartest dogs in the world, but they are so sweet and gentle and love people.
Oh my lord they are so cute! Do they have any health problems? I was reading that the toys have some breathing problems because of their squishy faces....
no breathing problems that i know of in the cavaliers, but my female does snore a lot. cavaliers can get a heart problem that has something to do with the valves and is usually fatal if they have it. most reputable breeders will have the adults screened for this. i would just watch out for that. madison also had some ear infection issues as a puppy because they would get so damp, i got some drops for her ears and she hasn't had a problem since. she is 2.5 and winston is 2.
my biggest complaint about them is that they shed a lot. because their hair is long and really fine, there are always little tumbleweeds of hair in my house.
*eta- i know you wanted an english toy, but if you are interested in cavaliers, i got winston from a breeder here in atlanta (decatur). i can give you her info if you want.
I dont have the toy dog...but my friend has a pug....more smooshy face...but I know that her pug breathes heavily, snores. You should do some research on the breed. Smaller dogs tend to be higher maintanence due to their size. I know some breeds cannot not be out in the heat or cold for a long period of time. Depending on where you live youll have to check that out.
