I have a couple of pairs of haircalf ballet flats and just noticed that both are going bald (!) right where my skinny jeans hit in the back. I haven't worn either that much so I'm surprised.
With so many haircalf belts, bags and shoes out now, I'm wondering if haircalf is something that has to be totally babied to keep looking good. I really like it but have noticed that haircalf has to be done just right or it looks instantly BAD.
I went through two pairs of the Nordies Bianca leopard flats and had to return b/c of sewing flaws with hair going in all directions. They were only $70 but I still expected them to look decent. J Crew's Easton driving mocs in Cheetah also looked hideous IRL, the stitching around the toe squiched the hair into a beige mush, just looked wierd. For $228 I would have thought they'd turn out better.
Yup, I have some Charles David calf hair pumps and the same thing started to happen when I wore them with jeans - in the back where the jeans and shoes rubbed the hair started to get prickly looking - so, now I only wear those shoes w/ skirts.
I'm wearing my Magnolia haircalf leopard print d'Orsay shoes today. They're very soft, the hair goes in the right direction, and I have owned them since last winter without any shedding problems.
I wear them mostly with dresses, though. I have worn them with pants and jeans, but I feel like they're much cuter with dresses anyway.
Lilykind, did you ever end up getting the Nordie's leopard Bianca's? I know someone here did, was it you? I wonder if anyone has worn those particular shoes with jeans and had that same balding effect? I returned mine but it's the J Crew Marabellas that are giving me the most trouble.
I have these shoes and a leopard belt that have ponyhair (or whatever the heck it's called). I feel like I just have to be very careful as a precaution. The backs of the shoes are a little messy but I try to smooth them out before and after I wear them. As for the belt, I just have to make sure to loop it through the belt loops with the grain of the hair instead of against it.

I saw them IRL, but I didn't think they were worth getting since the calf hair felt so rough to me.
As for J. Crew Marbellas...you can return them if they're shedding like that. I just returned my navy blue cashmere sweater because it was defective and they didn't give me a hard time at all.
