the girlfriend I'm going with to the clear magazine party is looking for ideas on what to wear... thought I would tap my fellow STers for ideas.  The invitation specifically states "be gorgeous" for the dress code (I'm wondering about my choices as well, now!) anyway - she has a $150 gc for Nordstrom and needs an outfit and shoes (I know, tall order).  She's petite and a size 4 I think? I was thinking kimono and boots, but thought some of you may have some good ideas as well...

if a fashion mag party invite tells you to "be gorgeous" what would you wear?

this is the same dress I have, but I think she would swim in the size I wear:

these are cute too: Nine West 'Mary Kate' Pump

that's just off the top of my head and trying to stay close to her gc amount...

ideas, please!

Coming from a petite person, I don't know that a kimono dress would work - I find the style can be overwhelming on my frame.  Definitely a try-it-on and see item, IMO.

Some more options (hopefully more sizes available in store for some of these?):

BCBGirls 'Dana' Dress$82$85
Total $167

Ruby Rox Charmeuse Shirtdress$68$75
Total $143

London Times Kimono Sleeve Matte Jersey Dress$78$70
Total $148

BCBGirls 'Tanya' Wide Belted Knit Dress$88$70
Total $158

excellent choices, Elle. I had been eyeballing that grey dress for her - she looks good in wrap/surplice tops. love the missoni-esque one too. it's good to have the perspective of a petite person too - I'm lost in that regard!

I am now totally rethinking my choices...

she just e-mailed me:

"I dunno anymore....I don't buy dresses very often and I always have to try
them on because some run bigger than others.  Like I think I wear 2-4...I
need to see if Nordstrom has anything in yet.  I tried their website, but it
always says "sold out" or "available in six weeks".  Ugh!!!"

any other ideas? skinny jeans? yes? no? I was trying to find something she'd get more wear from after this...

A jersey dress is always a good option - easily dressed up or down, can be worn year round depending on what you pair it with, and the wrap styles are adjustable.  Maybe something from the juniors department would be better in scale?

Blu Heaven Cowl Neck Dress$38Lush Clothing Faux Wrap Halter Dress$40

As U Wish Trapeze Dress$52 - maybe not as many fit worries with this one?

Velvet Torch Three Quarter Sleeve Wrap Dress$58Velvet Torch Three Quarter Sleeve Wrap Dress$58

I think being petite, dresses are often the easiest way to go - depending on how petite she is there is a good chance she'd have to have pants hemmed .... ?

In the fashion world "be georgous" doesnt always mean wear a dress. I go to alot of these events for work, and the styles range ALOT. Most of the women rock a look that is totally unique to there style.

Here are my suggestions:

Or this -

Dresses are great also , just try to do it in a non traditional way. Also dont forget the accessories - Belts , necklaces , bangle bracelets etc...

yes, I know this, but I cannot wear pants and was kind of hoping my friend would jump on the dress bandwagon with me (since you are in the also in the fashion world, you should know how hot dresses are right now!)

In a situation like that, I would avoid black like the plague because sooo many people are going to use the old stand-by. pick a color that is going to pop, like purple -- which many of the fashion rags say is the hot color of the season.

i also suggest showing some clavicle and wearing a killer necklace.

I would wear something no one else would have. For example, too bad you can get your hands on a new dress from Grace Sun...because the line won't launch until Spring. However, I think everyone should check it out. I think it looks like a great new line. I think it's www.gracesundesign.com

So, hypothetically I would think something Anna Wintour's might pick for someone who doesn't have millions of dollars to spend on clothes..haha...if it calls for be gorgeous..Because sometimes she wears the weirdest coutoure stuff and it can be excessive. Anyway....

I love this from Grace Sun..too bad it's not available yet.

Kimono Dress

I don't like the brown heels. Ugh. Maybe something in a purple. If it weren't spring...And it's way over the GC amount but...I'm dreaming for me:) On to Nordies....

Maggy London Two Tone Silk Dress

This is a little more than budget...like $80 more..Just an idea. I hate the brooch

Kenneth Cole Reaction Kimono Sleeve Dress Cute, Kenneth Cole $139
