ATTN: Computer Geeks :)
Permalink Closed

I might be leaving my job soon and I want to remove any evidence of me surfing the Web on my work computer. I will continue contact with my boss if I take this new job so I really want to save myself the embarrassment.

Ok. You know how on a PC, when you start to type in some URLs, the site automatically types in because you've been there before?? How do I stop that from happening?

Save me!

Thanks!

I'd like to first go on record as saying..I'm a computer enthusiast..not a geek just kidding

anywho there are several things I always do..

If you are using IE (I'm assuming you are) go to Tools-> Internet options...

Do "delete files" and "delete cookies"

After that I do "clear history"

when you've done all three of those things..make sure you delete any favorites you might have saved..

Those 4 things should do the trick..

also, so it doesn't show your history, change your days to keep history to 0 (in internet options)

also, you may want to go in and delete your history manually.

In addition to manually deleting your cookies and history, you might want to delete your temporary internet files.  They're temporary copies of images that appear on webapges you look at.   If you're on a networked Windows XP machine, your temporary internet files are probably located on your C drive.  Try C: -> documents and settings -> the folder with your user name -> local settings -> temporary internet files.  Open that folder and delete its contents.  Cookies are also in the local settings folder if you want to delete them manually instead of through IE.  When you delete them, it might take your computer a while to do it (a minute or so, if there are a lot).

If you can't see your local settings folder, in your file browser go to tools -> folder options and click on the view tab.  Check "show hidden files and folders" and click apply.  That should let you see your local settings folder.
