kicking myself...

I am so mad at myself.  Yesterday, 2 boxes from the bluefly clearance arrived along with a small box from UPS.  I just assumed the small box was something I ordered and opened it up. It wasn't. It was a christmas present my husband had secretly bought for me on ebay (a vintage art deco 18k gold and carved lapis lazuli ring). I'm just sick about wrecking the surprise for myself (and him). The drugs I am on just don't have me thinking as clearly as normal. ugh - I can't believe I opened it.  I taped the box up (frantically because he would be home soon and hurt myself in the process) and tried to act like nothing happened. I so hope he doesn't know I opened it

Oh no, I totally understand how you feel. I hate ruining surprises, especially when it is obvious that the person put a lot of thought into it. And that's not likely a present you will forget about! It sounds beautiful!
Depending on the circumstances I sometimes tell the person about it at the time rather than potentially having them find out months down the road when I open the gift and they can tell that I already knew about it.

What a sweetheart! Ordering x-mas presents already and it sounds like he has really good taste too! You can either tell him now, or act REALLY surprised when you get it, but I'm sure he will know either way how grateful you are and how much you like it! That's why I always have DH's gifts shipped to my mom's house! lol Merry Christmas!!!!!!

that sucks, I would be upset too. But still, what a lovely gift--I'm impressed that he knows your taste well enough to find you something so special... I feel like most men would have no clue.

Aww what a sweet hubby.  I hate ruining surprises too, and since you taped the box up, he'll never know unless you let on that you accidentally opened it.  That sucks that the surprise was ruined but what a wonderful surprise.  The ring sounds gorgeous.

Oh, that stinks -- I totally understand why you're bummed out, and also why you opened the box. Your husband is so sweet -- and what great taste! Just act very surprised and enthusiastic when he gives it to you and I doubt he'd figure it out.

Awww, how nice of him to plan AHEAD like that!  I'd pretend I didn't see it and try to forget about it by the time Christmas comes!

I would love to say he chose it on his own volition, but I was browsing ebay and pointed it out to him and said something to the effect that it was the coolest lapis ring I had ever seen.  I was really confused when I opened the box - I'm like, "I didn't win that ring, how did it get here? " That's the back story.

I am going to try to erase it from my mind and hopefully have close to the same genuine reaction I had when I opened it. Either that or put on an oscar winning performance

I'll show you what it looks like while I can still post the ebay pics (it claims to be rose gold, but it looks like yellow gold to me):
