Question about cobblers

I don't think it would work very well because the arch in the bottom of the shoe is made for that tall of a heel. If you shorten it, it would set properly. Basically if you cut off an inch of the heel there isn't a good way to make the proprtions of the rest of the shoe correct since they were made of a taller heel. However, this is just my opinion. I would call a cobbler and discuss it with them to see what his/her opinion is. I have found they are very talented so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they could do it!

It usually isn't possible to shorten a heel by much for the reason that HeatherLynn explained. I know I saw a website once which explained how to figure out how much a heel could be shortened but I can't find it now. My sister has tried to do this a few times and they were never able to do it by more than a 1/4".

i had an inch cut off the heel of a pair of 3.5" heeled boots (so they went down to 2.5"). they have a pointy toe that is slightly squared off at the very tip, and now with the lower heel the tip of the toe curls up ever so slightly.

i think it would depend on what the toe of the boot is like. you might not be able to tell as much with a boot that had a shorter, rounder toe. my boots had that long, pointiness that extends beyond where your toes actually sit so it makes sense that they pointed up with the shorter heel.

Hey chick, I called my sister and asked her (she used to be a cobbler) and she said that she wouldn't advise it. She said that it can be done, but unless you are ready to trash the boots if you do not like the end result that you shouldn't bother. She said that 95% of the time it doesn't work and most cobblers won't even bother because of the crappy "rate of syccess".
