i don't know what's wrong w/ me - i think i just need to vent a bit.

*background info* i got engaged 5 months ago. we've been together for 5 years ago and very early on in our relationship, i shared what kind of engagment ring i wanted (it went with a story and i showed him the setting on-line) bless his heart, he remembered and with the help of my little sis. it's a beautiful antique setting, round center stone, 5 tiny side stones on each side and platinum

well, last week, my very good friend got engaged (yay!) and her ring looks.exactly.like.mine.

i'm bummed - i've been talking about this ring for years and my very close girlfriends knew that i wanted an antique setting, etc. she never once said that she wanted an antique ring, let alone a round center stone (she always said that she wanted a pricess cut ring, baguettes on the side) and now we have identical rings.

i know that i should be an adult and not care, but i do.. i'm being a baby, i know.

thanks for letting me vent :( i feel bad and materialistic just writing this.

that stinks!!  did she have a hand in picking our her ring or was it all her fiancee?  if he picked it out without her and didn't really get what she wanted, she can't really help it.  i know that doesn't change the fact that your rings are so similar.

CONGRATS on the engagement though!!!

That sucks. It's not like you can demand she return it and get another. It's not like you could even say one single word to her about it. Ugh. I hate situations like that. She sucks, too. I feel for you, Monica.

That is so lame of her! You're not being a baby- that would really annoy me too.

Did she address the fact that it was the same ring?!

eta: the ring sounds gorgeous, btw! Do you have a pic?

That stinks!  That's kind of disappointing.

I'm thinking that her fiance probably picked out the ring himself.  There is no way that a girl would pick out the same ring as her friend, so I highly doubt that she had a hand in it.  And who knows?  Maybe her fiance saw your ring and really liked it and wanted something similar for her.  And, hey, imitation is the highest form of flattery!

Bummer .  I hate it when crap like that happens!  FWIW, I'm going to guess that she did have some kind of say in how that ring looked.  Most guys (generalize, stereotype, lalala) would probably choose a plain tiffany setting in the face of all those choices, just to have it be done.  Maybe she did gush about your ring to her boyfriend, but really all that means is that she really, really likes your ring!  And that she lacks originality and class ..... but that's beside the point .

But, it doesn't make your ring any less pretty!

Has she been a one-upper in the past?

Oh, I am sorry!  That would totally annoy me as well.  I guess it's just imitation as the best form of flattery and you can know that your taste is clearly the best.  Would you post a picture of your ring when you get a chance?  It sounds very beautiful.

Heck no! You're not being a baby.  I hate when my sisters/friends buy the same exact things that I have.  I have been known to return/ not buy things if I know someone that I spend time with is going to have the same thing, even if it was my idea first.

That being said...Congatualtions on your engagement.  Don't let such a thing get in the way of your happy time.
