animal charities?

I want to give a donation to an animal welfare organization for a friend, but am not sure which one to choose or even how to go about finding a list of them. In particular, my friend loves exotic & tropical animals so I'm wondering if there's any organization devoted to them. Does anyone know of a good organization, or know of a site that lists charities where I can browse for one? Thanks!

I just did a quick Google search for "animal charities," and the first site to pop up was
Animal Charities of America. If you click on their member list, it shows you all the different charities that are a part of the organization. The "About Us" section says they screen different charities for animals, and then if they check out, they add them to the member list.

it gives a lot of information about how indiv. charities spend their money- so you can pick a charity that spends a lot of money on their programs as opposed to admin costs, for example.
