I am very paranoid about them because I like them dark, dark, dark. So I wash them inside out, in cold water, with Woolite for dark clothes and then I air dry them.
I wash them in cold (wrong side out if I remember to) and then dry them on medium unless I have absolutely no room for shrinkage, which is only my one pair of rigid, and then I air dry.
Thanks for the info. I think I'll get some Woolite dark, I don't want them to fade. My washing machine's "cold" setting is more like a "not exactly scalding hot" setting, which is really annoying when I want to wash clothing on cold. I think it's because it's so hot outside, that the water can't stay cool in the pipes. I've actually thought about dumping some ice in the washer just to cool the water a bit.
I read once that it is a good idea to keep a pair of jeans (or two) ONLY for work or dressing up and have that pair(s) drycleaned when needed. The rest can be handled in cold with cold water detergent. I've been good about it so far, it does keep the jeans nice and dark plus not wearing them for normal everyday use keeps them needing much less cleaning.
Cheer for dark is amazing and also a bit cheaper than Woolite. I am so glad they came up with those two products! My Dd and I have the same plum colored top and she accidentally washed it in reg detergent- the difference between the two is completely obvious.
