Midol doses?
Permalink Closed

I've never taken Midol before, but I just bought it because I have a severe need today

Does anyone know how much I'm supposed to take? Each little tear-off package has two, but it doesn't actually say anywhere how much I need. I guess I'm assuming that I'm to take two at once, but I didn't want to do that without explicit directions. Under "Directions" it just says not to exceed the recommended dose. Am I completely insane? Does anyone know how many I'm supposed to take at a time?

I get severe cramps for the first two days of my cycle.  I can't do a THING, unless I take 2 Midol every six hours (the recommended dose, to answer your question), but then I'll take Advil too, about 3 hours after the Midol, so they alternate.  That works the best for me.

Thank you! I took one and wanted to take two but I wanted to double-check

That sucks about your cramps... mine sound wimpy in comparison

Not to highjack your thread, but does Midol work well?

Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a more experienced answer, but my experience (which has just been last night and today) was a good one. I get cramps, but not killer ones, so Midol relieved me but I don't know about the ladies who get horrible cramps. But I just felt better all around, I perked up a little and my headache and bloating got better.

The package says that it has the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee and recommends you don't drink caffeine besides it, but it also says it might make you drowsy? I was a little sleepy today, but I didn't get a lot of sleep last night so I'd probably be tired whether I took Midol or not. But I found that really odd that a caffeinated product could make me sleepy

Midol works great for me.  In the last few years, my cramps have been a lot worse, and my doctor has just attributed it to getting older.  So, for the last year or so, I've been taking Midol and Advil (alternated like above post) for the first 3-4 days of my period.  It has helped so much more than Advil alone.  It does make me a little sleepy, but I am very sensitive to drowsiness from medicine.  I buy the big bottle at Costco.  I think it's 80 capsules for less than $10.

I have really bad cramps.  I take midol but even that doesn't help at times.  My doc put me on Seasonale so I won't have to deal with them as often even though I've had a tubal. From past experience do NOT take Midol before bed.  I was up all night. Instead as my last dose of meds for the night I take Tylenol PM or Advil PM.  They work soooooo good for a good nights sleep when dealing with cramps.   I highly recommend this before bed.

Am I the only one who experiences horrible side effects from Midol? I swear it made me feel worse. I never took it before, and decided to try it one day, because my cramps are HORRIBLE. (I usually take 3 Ibuprofens every 4 hours for the first 2 days, because the cramps are that bad.) I took midol and it made me feel weird, and didn't work for cramps, or bloating, or headache, or backache at all.
