Help!!! - Teaching Wardrobe Ideas
Permalink Closed

I just unexpectedly got a position teaching high school at a local private school.  Now I need to buy a professional wardrobe!  I am not yet 23, and I look somewhat on the young side, so I need to look my age or a bit older.  I'm looking for pieces that are versatile and professional, yet will let me keep my personal style.  (I like things that are classic but with a bit of a modern/updated twist to them.)  My biggest fear is looking old/frumpy - I want pieces that are unique since I love fashion.  I don't have a huge salary, so my best price range would be stores like target, f21, charlotte russe, etc., with splashes of gap and ann taylor loft for a few pieces that are worth the cost.  I need everything - shirts, skirts, pants, shoes, etc.  Please post ideas!!!  TIA.

I don't have any specific ideas, but you might want to check out halleybird's threadstyle posts for some ideas. She is also a teacher and has some cute outfits.

Not so sure where to look since I don't know if the dress code is suits professional or can be a more casual with trousers and tops.  But anyways, I'd spend the most money on a few good pairs of pants or skirts.

Gap has some budget friendly looks.

 $48 $48

 $38-$44

Victorias Secret has both of these pants for only $39.50, and they also come in cocoa, black, and, khaki.

$38  Comes in so many colors $38

Halleybird is the first thing that popped in my mind too - she always looks so sharp but not stuffy at all.  Things I think of are button-downs, Editor pants, pencil skirts, sweaters, and throw in some cute accessories like red shoes, a nice belt, etc.

Thanks for the ideas - keep 'em coming!  There are some things about the dress code I don't know yet, but based on what I do know, pants and tops would be fine.

I think f21 could be a good place... it totally depends; there is an f21 in two cities that I hop back and forth living between. One is completely crappy, and one is wonderful. So it's a crapshoot. BUT, there are a lot of things at f21 that I want to buy all the time, but I don't because I'm still a student and don't have any use for them in my wardrobe.

wow, I am flattered to be recommended!

btw, I believe shpgqueenet is also a teacher, or works in education. Her outfits are always very cute and functional.

Like the others said, it depends on your climate and your dress code. Ours is basically business casual. But no matter what, you want shoes that won't hurt your feet, and you'll obviously want to avoid anything too tight or revealing. I dress up a little more than I have to because I am so young -- I need to make sure I stand out from the kids.

You might want to hit up target - they have some really great classic pieces right now for fall. I was extremely impressed. They have some wool knee-length skirts and lots of button-up shirts and cardigans.

Also, try Ann Taylor for some quality basics. I have a black skirt from there that I've had for years and I still love it.

When I was scrolling down, I saw Cortney1982's suggestion of these pants, but all I saw was the cami, and I was thinking, "She's insane"!!!    Probably not an appropriate top for a high school teacher!
