What look or clothing item do you adore on other people, but looks ridiculous when you actually try it on?

On the other hand, what were you sure would look awful, but you tried it on and you were suprised that you actually look amazing?

I just can't make skinny jeans work. I have tried on pair after pair after pair and its just won't happen for me. I'm tall and pretty thin but they look really weird on me.  I tried on some when I was shopping with my friend and she kind of snickered at me and made me go back into the change room.

I was surprised how cute shirts with banded bottoms actually look on. I originally thought they'd be frumpy but I like how they look.

sudden storm top<-banded like this. Is that the right term?

camis with fitted, structured bodices, like this:

I love the way they look but I have finally learned to stop trying them on. They just do NOT work with A cups.

Actually I have the same problem as sephorablue but my girls are always busting out.  I seriously have a hard time with the chest area in a lot of tops.  I'm always jealous of girls who can wear really plunging tops without cleavage.

Skinny jeans will never work for me either.

Yeah, but then you're just left with sternum. My similarly endowed friend and I christened this "sternum cleavage" but it's just not really all that hot. Esp. cause my sternum is kind of concave--the Fug girls would be on me in a heartbeat.

I thought for sure leggins would look horrible on me and that I'd never wear them, but I tried them on and love them!

Skirts I have a hard time pulling off, especially skirts any shorter then my knee. I'm just too self conscious of my legs and think the look silly.

However I look adorable in skirts and leggings

I have the same un-cleavage - my dancer friends and I dubbed it 'Wanna-be cleavage' back in the day .

I so wish I could pull off skinny jeans - I just really think that it's not gonna happen.  I also wish I could do empire-waist things.  But I can't, 'cause I just look pregnant, pregnant, pregnant!  But I guess I'll know what to wear when I actually am pregnant ...

Boots that only go up to mid-calf. I always thought they looked weird and would just opt for the knee-length boots, but these shorter mid-calf boots are freakin' cute!

I wish I could pull off the skinny jeans + boots look.  I love wearing all my boots, and some of them really need to be shown off instead of sticking out of the bottoms of my jeans.

I'm happy that even though I'm short, I can pull off flats and round toed shoes.  (I get annoyed at the people on What Not To Wear when they tell the short girls that they can only wear pointy shoes.)

I wish I could pull off jeans tucked into boots too.  I can barely find boots that fit over my calves.  There's no boot in the world that fits both my calves and jeans.

I've been trying to think of my answers to this ever since I started this thread!

I think what I wish I could pull off is ballet flats. For some reason, they just always look goofy on me. I LOVE them on other people, though, and try them on all the time, as if I think something is going to change

I can't think of what works on me that suprises me, though! I know I've been surprised in the past but I can't recall anything specific. I'll have to edit this post when I've had an epiphany

I was floored that I can pull of skinny jeans....At least I think I can.

Things I wish I could pull off:

1.  Jeans tucked into boots.  I have giant calves.

2.  Long cardigan sweaters.  They cling to my giant booty.

3.  Anything strapless (or that requires going bra-less or with a strapless bra).  The giant boobs prevent this look.

4.  Flats.  Short legs + muscular calves = very bad look with flats.

5.  Loose, flowy tunic type sweaters, shirts, etc:  The whole short, curvy thing again.  ARGH.

I wish I could pull off the voluminous look, especially longer-length sweaters and cardigans, but they hit me all wrong at the hips and I end up looking ridiculous, like I'm drowning in fabric.  But it looks great on other girls!  Sigh.   I also wish I could pull off a more modern, sleek aesthetic, but I'm always drawn to girlier pieces.

Ditto on this-- I look totally weird in flats so you'll never find me in anything except heels.
