My friend is petite (I think she's 5 feet) and she is a typical pear body. She's asking me for advice on what type of pants/cut to buy. I recommended pants straight through the hip and thigh w/ no cuffs. She wants to buy these pants that are MAJOR wide leg, but I think that will look bad on a curvy/petite frame.
I'm 5'2" like Erin and also look like a goon in really wide legged pants. IMO a good rule of thumb for short people is to go with wide legs that are the same width as the top of your thigh a their widest - that way you still have the style of the wide leg but your legs don't get lost and end up looking wider than they are long.
My favorite cut is a slim-ish, straight cut that doesn't hug the knee too much. I've found that's the style that slims me out the most. Adds a couple inches in height too!

I'm 5' 3" and can wear wide leg pants as long as I wear heels. Any wider and I would be overwhlemed, though. I have an hourglass and feel the need to balance on bottom what I've got on top though.
