pregnancy induced insomia?
Permalink Closed

I'll try not to be too much of a whiner...
but this is a combination of a vent/ request for advice.

So my little munchkin is getting bigger these days, which means when she kicks..dude I FEEL it.

Lately she's been kicking me a lot at night which in turn is making it virtually impossible to sleep. I'm hoping by some off chance that someone has tip on how I can deal with this.

Or is it just one of those things I'll just have to suck up and live with till she evacuates...

I fear it is the latter ...but I thought I'd take a chance..

My second pregnancy was the same. She was VERY ACTIVE. I found that sometimes going for a walk at night would lull her to sleep or calm her some.

I hate to say it, but I think it's gonna be the latter

Is there anything you do other times that seems to lull her at all?  I know that cold liquids, sugar, and caffeine can make them more active, though I doubt you're slugging ice cold lattes before bed!  Do warm liquids have an opposite effect, maybe?

You could also try doing some gentle yoga-type stretches (cat-cow, etc) that involve your torso/pelvis - Might at the very least settle her into a position that's a bit more comfortable ...

Ya got one of those rip-off-a-page-a-day calendars for this pregnancy, yet?

me thinks she hates me

TMI alert..

but the kid is pratically doing "River dance" on my bladder all frigging day....

I'll try the going for a walk thing...maybe the motion will rock her to sleep..

I've found that working out like doing yoga or pilates just gives her a boost of energy..

I think I might need one of those calendars...it might be therapeutic.

All I gotta say is...she better be cute....

ayo I second the rip off  calendars. I used one and it loved ripping off the pages...count downChris was very active I used to put on classical  music and put the head phones on my belly and this helped. In fact after he was born I played the music and it helped him sleep

i had a friend whose baby was very active in utero, and once the baby flipped, she calmed down a lot.  mercie was the same way for me.  she would kick a lot when she was still head up, and then not so much once she flipped.  it sounds like she is still head up to me, so maybe all she needs is to flip.

on another note, once my friends baby flipped, she kicked her in the ribs so hard she fractured one.  and since there is not really anything you can do for fractured ribs in the first place, let alone when your pregnant, she couldn't do a thing for it, including pain killers.   and that was the baby's favorite place to kick.

edit: i totally forgot the whole reason for posting this,  try drinking a cup or two of warm chamomile tea in the evening time.  since it is supposed to help mommy relax, it should maybe help baby too.    i started drinking lipton's quietly chamomile when i was pregnant and am now hooked.  i love it.  it makes pretty good iced tea too.

ayo, this may be a sign of things to come!

lilah was really active in utero, and is a really active/alert (read: always awake) baby!

Kaykay- I think my little one is partier...playing music for her just makes her MORE active..she loves it!

Erin- I KNOW!! that's my fear... so no dice yet on regulating Lilah's sleeping pattern?

Tashina- that is horrible! my goodness. I hope when she flips it will get better...then again maybe not. I'll also try the chamomile thing.... it can't hurt..
Thanks!

erin and ayo, i was thinking the samething about this being a sign, but didn't want to sound stupid by saying anything.  mercie was very active all night long, but i can sleep though most anything, so i never noticed, but my hubby would feel it all night long since i am a serious cuddle bug.  sure enough, she was a night owl until she was about a year old.  i would be up with her at leas 6 or 8 times a night.
