using a razor on fine hair
Permalink Closed

I asked my  stylist about using the razor on my hair for giving layers . She said it would break off my hair to much and cause split ends since my hair is  baby fine.Is she right? I go for my appoitment on Monday and I still want something different with layers and chopy peices(a liitle nervous with that) should I just stick with scissors? TIA

I'm pretty sure you can expect to get more split ends if your hair is cut with a razor... especially if your hair is already fine.

honestly, I've had both razor cuts and scissor cuts and prefer the latter. My last haircut was with just a pair of scissors. A good hairstylist can texturize your hair with scissors.

I prefer a razor for the very ends/overall length, and scissors for layers.  I haven't found that my hair has been any more susceptible to split ends than with a scissor cut.  I'm coming up on 18 months without any sort of haircut and have just started noticing split ends in the last month or so.

If your hair tends to break easily or you are very prone to split ends, I'd probably avoid a razor regardless of hair texture.

a good stylist can do anything!

but really, i think a razor is ok if it's not overused on fine hair.
