Need help with a new work wardrobe

Hey gals...I am in serious need of an updated work wardrobe.  I work in a law office, so things have to stay pretty professional, but I don't have to be super conservative about it (it is pretty relaxed and casual around here). 


I feel like I have completely lost touch with fashion over the summer because I had to study so much...it kept me away from the mags and this site.  So, I am looking for a couple of new suits and then some other work wear like pants and sweaters.


I know you ladies can help me out and I would love some of your suggestions.  Please let me know your thoughts.

What about a sweater dress? Those are going to be big for fall and you can dress them up or down.
